Wolfreton Drive and Wolfreton Road in Anlaby shut 7pm to midnight from 24 August. Willerby Square closes in two stages from 4 September, Heads Lane from 7.

The first closures of a £1.8 million resurfacing programme start on Monday. Wolfreton Drive and Wolfreton Road in Anlaby will be shut 7pm to midnight on weekdays from Monday 24 August to Friday 4 September.

That is the opening move in a scheme covering seven junctions across the south and west of the district. East Riding of Yorkshire Council announced it on 19 August. Work runs from 24 August to December, with Britcon UK Ltd as contractor. (East Riding of Yorkshire Council, £1.8m road improvement scheme to start in Hessle and Willerby)

Each junction gets its approaches resurfaced, with footpath, kerb and drainage repairs at the same time. The seven are:

  • Boothferry Road and Heads Lane, Hessle
  • Willerby Square roundabout
  • Springfield Way at Wolfreton Drive and Wolfreton Road, Anlaby
  • The A1079 and Holme Road roundabout, Market Weighton
  • The A614 and M62 Howden spur roundabouts
  • Selby Road and the Beastfair junction to the county boundary, Snaith
  • Newport Road at the M62 junction into North Cave

The Hessle and Willerby work happens in the evenings. The other locations are daytime jobs.

Anlaby, from Monday 24 August. The statutory notice sets out the extents precisely. Wolfreton Drive closes between Springfield Way and North Street. Wolfreton Road closes between Springfield Way and Orchard Close. Both run 7pm to midnight until Friday 4 September. Springfield Way itself, between the Haltemprice roundabout and Weeton Way, was closed in the week to 21 August and has done its turn. (statutory notice, 30 July 2026)

The signed diversions in the notice are:

  • For Wolfreton Drive: south on Wolfreton Drive, east on Hull Road, then west on Springfield Way.
  • For Wolfreton Road: north on Wolfreton Road, west on Kingston Road, south on Gorton Road, then east on Springfield Way.

Willerby Square, from Monday 24 August. Kerb replacements and path repairs start first. The roundabout itself is resurfaced from Friday 4 September to Monday 21 September, in two stages that overlap:

  • Stage one, 4 to 11 September: Main Street, Carr Lane and Kingston Road eastbound closed, 7pm to midnight on weekdays.
  • Stage two, 4 to 21 September: Beverley Road and Kingston Road westbound closed, same hours.

Hessle, from Monday 7 September. The Boothferry Road and Heads Lane junction is the biggest single phase, at up to four weeks. Heads Lane is closed to traffic 7pm to midnight from Monday 7 September to Friday 18 September. Boothferry Road stays open throughout, under temporary signals, with contractors working one half of the dual carriageway at a time.

What it means for you

If you live on Wolfreton Drive or Wolfreton Road, you can still get home. The notice keeps access for residents, pedestrians and emergency services, and only through traffic is banned. Deliveries and taxis after 7pm are the awkward part.

If you drive through Willerby Square in the evening, plan for three weeks of it in September. Both stages run at once from 4 September, so most approaches to the square are affected on the same nights.

If you use Heads Lane, the two-week evening closure is the one to diary. Boothferry Road traffic will be on signals for longer than that, so allow extra time on the Hessle to Humber Bridge run even outside the closure hours.

Councillor Paul West, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “These road improvements are necessary, and I want to thank residents and drivers for bearing with us.”

Dates on resurfacing move with the weather. Our East Riding roadworks and travel page tracks every current closure in the district, including the separate £600,000 Beverley programme and two new Cottingham closures starting on the same Monday in September.
