Beverley has direct trains to London, which surprises people who assume everything from East Yorkshire goes via Hull or Doncaster. It does have them. It has two of them a day, both in the morning, and if you miss the second one you are changing trains like everybody else.

That single fact shapes every London trip from here, so this page starts with it and then covers what the rest of the day looks like, what the fares actually are, and when it is worth driving to Brough instead.

The two direct trains

Hull Trains runs the through service and says plainly that it is “the only train operator to offer a direct service from Beverley to London King’s Cross”. Checking the National Rail timetable for a standard weekday, Monday 10 August 2026, the southbound direct departures were:

  • 05:53, arriving King’s Cross 08:47. Two hours 54 minutes, the fastest train of the day from Beverley by any routeing.
  • 08:10, arriving King’s Cross 11:17. Three hours 7 minutes, and the one most people actually use.

Coming back the same day, the direct northbound services were the 19:04 from King’s Cross, into Beverley at 22:07, and the 20:18, in at 23:23. Both take a little over three hours.

Everything else in the day involves a change. That is not a hardship, but it is worth knowing before you book a 14:00 meeting on the strength of a 10:05 departure.

The rest of the day means changing

After 08:10 the pattern settles into roughly hourly departures needing one change, almost always at Hull or Doncaster, and typically landing at King’s Cross in three hours 12 to three hours 17 minutes. A few work out at two changes and closer to three and a half hours.

The routeing matters more than the clock face:

Brough sits on the Hull to London main line, so southbound trains do not have to work their way across to it, and the fastest Brough departure reached King’s Cross in 2 hours 20 minutes, more than half an hour quicker than anything from Beverley.

  • Leeds: 1 hour 22 minutes at best, always with a change. Off-Peak return £39.60.

Practical points

  • Book the 05:53 or the 08:10 if you want a direct train. There is no lunchtime or afternoon direct service from Beverley.
  • Coming home, the last two trains from King’s Cross are the direct ones. The 19:04 and 20:18 both run through to Beverley, which makes an evening in London workable without a change at Hull late at night.
  • Check which operator your ticket covers. Several Beverley to London fares are marked Hull Trains only, and they are not valid on an LNER service via Doncaster. The any-operator fares cost noticeably more for a reason.
  • Driving to the station is the normal way in from the villages. If you are heading for Brough instead, the A164 is the route, and it is the road most affected by the Jock’s Lodge works.
